LA MIRADA, CA (July 13, 2024) - There will be a first-time champion in the Southwest Premier League.
Chula Vista FC will take on Soccer Academy Nevada in the SWPL Final on Sunday at Al Barbour Field on the campus of Biola University.
"Two high-level, hard-working teams battling for the hardware is exactly what we wanted," Southwest Premier League President Matt Morse said. "We had two exciting semifinals and will be ready when these two champions take the pitch on Sunday."
Chula Vista FC overcame an early deficit with three goals from Brendan Sanchez to beat Worldwide Problems 3-2 in the early semifinal. Sebastian Pla, a SWPL Player of the Year finalist, scored the first goal for Problems FC. Jose Montes De Oca, better known as 'Chila', also scored in the loss.
Soccer Academy Nevada defeated Honduras SF U23 4-0 on two early goals from Edgar Sierra, with Aaron Castro scoring in the 77th minute and Johnathan Negrete adding another just after the 90th minute.
Admission is $10. Children 10-and-under are free.
